Lake Norman

Lake Norman is North Carolina’s largest man-made lake, stretching nearly 34 miles with more than 520 miles of shoreline and a surface area of more than 32,000 acres. Often called the “inland sea,” the lake was created between 1959 and 1963 and named for Norman Atwater Cocke, a former president of Duke Power.

Today, Lake Norman touches eight towns, including Denver, Davidson, Cornelius, Huntersville, Mooresville, Sherrills Ford, Catawba, and Troutman. With deep water, wide views, marinas, waterfront dining, boating, fishing, kayaking, and nearby parks and trails, the lake has become one of the Charlotte region’s defining places to live, gather, and spend time outside.
